Encyclopedia

When thumbing through an old Encyclopedia (circa 1960), I found a musty old note on a piece of loose leaf paper. My heart began to race, thinking it would be something interesting or worthwhile. Sadly, this was not the case, for the letter was dated November 19, 1960 and was a note from one student to another about how he was skipping class that day in order to do more important things than school.

And that really got me thinking. . .
Here we are, living in an era where sex, drugs, and danger is prevalent to people of all ages. Kids now skip school to smoke, drink, or get in trouble with the law. But back in 1960, decades before computers, cell phones, and all the fixings of a high stress yet politically correct environment kids would skip school. . . and read the Encyclopedia?

Times were simpler then. If you were to ask the members of my generation about Encyclopedias, they would most likely say it's just a big book full of "boring stuff."

For me on the other hand, I have a strange appreciation of the past, and would almost rather obtain information from a book rather than online. Then again, I would rather buy something at a store rather than online. Oh well, maybe I'm just an outdated kid, stuck in a technologically inclined generation.

So next time you have the time, look into an Encyclopedia, because you never know what will come up.
